I hadn’t finished any projects for a while, but I’m slowly starting to complete things.
I’ve been prioritizing both a) using things from my stash; and b) making sweaters that I can incorporate more into my daily wear.
For the latter, it has led to me either redoing parts of sweaters, or working on things that tend to be a little more slow. A lot of these sweaters are plain stockinette or ribbing, so I lose steam and cast on something new to get a little boost. But, I think I’ll have a lot of new, wearable sweaters in early 2025.
All that being said, I have finished a few things.
Jeremy’s blanket
One of the things I’ve finally finished is Jeremy’s blanket. I may do a longer post on this – I ran out of warp and had to find some way to attach more “seamlessly.” In the end, it isn’t perfect, but now that it is done I already want to do another in colors that are more “me.”
When it first came off the loom, I was a bit disappointed in the colors. I don’t really know what I expected, but it wasn’t really exciting me. I think if I do another, I will do something more similar to this sample I did at Harrisville:
But, even with the colors not being my favorite, Jeremy loves it, so that’s great.
Primrose
I’ll definitely write more about the process of knitting this sweater at some point because oh my god was it annoying. But finally I think I have a version I am happy with.
I really like the cropped look for a fair isle sweater and will definitely knit more like this, but work on having a slightly looser gauge so the fabric is more comfortable. The gauge on this sweater ended up so tight that the fabric is a bit stiff. I do love heavy fabrics like, tapestry and upholstery, but it isn’t as ideal for a little sweater like this.
I think the sweater is beautiful, but if my body changes in any way, it will be pretty impossible to wear. But, maybe it can be an heirloom if I have kids who also love knitwear.
Fisherman
Lastly, I’ve just finished my Fisherman sweater. At first, I felt like the fabric was too thick and sproingy, but after some steam blocking it really relaxed. It still isn’t drapey, but it is a nice toothy, lightweight fabric. It’s also incredibly warm. It doesn’t match exactly what I had in my head based on Carmen from Knitting a Good Yarn’s version, but now that I have worn it a few days and it has sort of “found its shape,” I’m happy with it.
With those completed, I’ve been working on a few new sweaters, plus looking to pick my handspun and alpaca slubbing sweaters back up.
